Ashley Cappell Collection
Ashley Chappell is a Chicago-based photographer whose work moves between fine art and fashion, exploring myth, memory, and the divine presence within Black life. Her practice began as a form of healing after being diagnosed with lupus a way to reconnect with her body, her emotions, and the world around her through imagemaking. What started as a means of survival evolved into a visual language rooted in reverence, spirituality, and reclamation.
Living with a chronic illness reshaped how Ashley experiences time and beauty; photography became a meditation on presence. She creates images that blur reality and imagination, transforming moments of stillness into portals of reflection and freedom. Each photograph is an act of remembering of herself, her lineage, and the stories often left untold. Her work now stands at the intersection of art and restoration, using light, color, and texture to explore what it means to exist fully, even within fragility.
