Uthman Olowa Collection
Uthman Olowa is a Yorubamerican (first-generation Nigerian American) visual artist and
architectural designer. Through his art practice, Uthman celebrates the cultural richness of the Black diaspora by painting vibrant portraits that exude joy, style, and beauty. Recently, he has worked primarily with acrylic paint, though his practice spans a range of media such as colored pencil, ink, markers, and charcoal. Uthman’s artwork has been exhibited in shows across Chicago, New York City, and Providence, Rhode Island.
In his design practice, Uthman engages with architecture as a tool to create spaces that support and affirm the unique cultural identities and practices of Black and Brown communities. By blending his art skills with his background in engineering, Uthman approaches design with a balance of technical precision and creative expression.
